Active, adventurous man open to joining a community of mariners. Masters swimmer for years; would like to start free diving or SCUBA again as well as sail. Worked off coasts of Northern and Southern CA, British Columbia and Alaska about thirty years ago and since then have been on land rearing children and probably working too much.
As long as i can remember I have been enchanted with the ocean, beginning with memories as a 3 and 4 year old on the beaches of southern California-jumping into the surf, to my first dive in 1970 off Cannery Row in the water under what is now the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I think that what has been so compelling about the ocean is its wilderness. The flowing water and life forms are so different from the geography and biota on the land and while at risk, not so manipulated by humans, yet, at least.

I was an oceanographer based in Santa Cruz for 10 years, in the 1970's and 80's. I've dived in Laguna Beach, Catalina, La Jolla, Big Sur, Carmel, Hopkins Marine Station in Pacific Gove and off the Douglas Channel and Hecate Straits in British Columbia, and in the Beaufort Sea in Alaska.
While i have sailed from time to time and have basic certification, I would still call myself a novice sailor. I have my sea legs, though, and feel very comfortable in and on the water. I envision at some point in the next few years possibly doing some cruising. In the meantime I need experience and will likely be purchasing a boat.
