So my very first memories are of sailing in Puerto Rico. My dad was a U.S. Navy officer and we lived there when I was 4-5 years old. We used to sail over to Vieques every weekend to play and picnic on the beaches there. Then when I was ages 7-13 I attended camp in Maine where we learned our knots and how to sail, but I forgot MUCH of what learned. I really need to take a course here in Colorado.. YES there are sailing schools here, believe it or not. ;)
As an adult, my hubs and I did Moorings charter with some friends in 2001 - around the Greek Isles on a monohull. In fact, were there during Sept 11, which was very surreal. That was our last big sailing trip - and I miss it greatly.
I caught the bug again on a recent trip to St. Maarten were we did a 7-hour catamaran trip around the island.
I know they're hard to come by these days, but I prefer monohulls and LOVE heeling. My friends think I'm weird for that. ;)
