This is an ongoing process so will continue to write here as it all moves along. The past few years have been educating on many fronts both technical and social so despite the limited scope of this profile a LOT has been happening and a lot has been learned.

Most of the more significant adventures and experiences have happened in the past 7 years after getting back into sailing while living in Japan, reconciling with the inner Aquarian, chasing the Sunset in Kujukushima, stretching daysailing well into nights and weekend long coastal cruises, finding a bigger boat, crossing from P.I. to Japan,.......

Currently still look after a small cruiser, in depth repairs Epicurus and a few reasons to possibly build a shunting proa for extended cruising..
Really enjoy working with passionate sailors of all ages..

  • Due to the format of this site being oriented toward random hot selfies, I’m unable to post anything in a sequential or logical manner ( go figure) apologies for any confusion, process is pretty straightforward thouth
  • First order of business is to clap some twine on this witch’s tail with a constrictor knot( ideally a double constrictor for slick line )Hook up to the ends with marlinspike hitches ( disposable chopsticks work well; usually snap before the twine does
  • Steady pressure with well sharpened knife( ideally something with a thicker blade )And a few resolute thumps with a wooden mallet sever the ratty end in short order.
  • Note: this doesn’t work for spectra/ dyneema, pbo, vectran or aramid, which have to be “sawn” with a blade of ceramic or frequently sharpened steel. Even a good 440c blade can dull quickly.
  • Traditionally this is done with a long length of twine flopping around with a marlinspike hitched to it half a fathom away from the whipping, slack is taken up every third turn and the spike is shifted down once the scope is used up.
  • This simple tool keeps the situation less fiddly, tension uniform; even for a lefty like myself it’s easy to keep the turns from overriding. You’ll need an extension drill to go deep enough for the needle to drop in

  • The only connection to the rat race aside from cellular service and an 8 mile dirt road,which helps as The proa designer and engineer are on the other side of the world
  • Typical winter snack from the root cellar
  • Takes effort to stay warm in the winter.Usually split the lot in the fall and fill the porch a few times during the winter
  • This is where we all learned how houses are built growing up

  • About the only thing that kept the repairs going until late in the afternoon 5 slices, disturbing ><!
  • R&D on the Now DeTorre tool Wall mounted Cnc Cutting center. Learned a lot
  • This was back when I ran a small landscaping company for minor gains, lived on site in the shop and made friends with another lost hungry soul.

  • Dry fitting first plank ( later learned the 35 degree angle from the G brothers was unnecessary; caused some trouble later on
  • First gen. Scarphing machine. Grinder was later replaced with offset routers eliminating the guillotine
