About Me:

I've pursued sailing as a pastime for the last 8 years. Presently I'm cruising a Bristol 33, whilst fixing up my Cape George 36.

I've really enjoyed exploring the islands between Vashon and Desolation Sound, and look forward to wandering further afield once the new boat is kitted out.

Fun-loving crew is always welcome aboard. I'm a fan of visual art, craft, dancing, playing keyboard, making weird snacks, and experiencing different ways of living around the world.

I have a BA in Sculpture from the Tyler School of Art, and for many years was a professional woodturner. This involved designing and producing high quality home items such as salad bowls, suction lidded tea boxes, toy spinning tops, rolling pins, and such.

Prior to covid I began moving more towards designing in cast iron. Current projects include a small wood stove (for boats, of course) and some skillets.

Once these projects wrap up I will be free to do a lot of sailing, as I have also begun doing freelance industrial design work. It's a great way to have some income while cruising. I've been designing in Rhino 3D since 2003. so can draw up just about anything I can imagine.

Lately I've built a cnc mill and am teaching myself to make patterns for the cast iron work.

Username: Idemo means "Let's go" in Croatian. I'd love to make it there on the boat some time.

Sailing Experience:

I've spent every summer sailing abroad since 2015. (Primarily in British Colombia and the San Juan Islands).

2019: 1.5 month passage from Ecuador to Panama (via Colombia) on the Pacific Coast.

I've also cruised my Hobie 16 thousands of miles in the region, including a 6 day passage from Vashon to the San Juan Islands.

For the past 14+ years I've made my living turning wooden salad bowls and toy spinning tops on Vashon Island. For the last several years I've been branching out into industrial design- which has been great in that it has challenged me and is an excellent way to make a living whilst cruising.

Current projects in the works:

A wood heating stove for boats / tiny houses.

A series of cast iron skillets.

Sailing Qualifications:

I have learned to sail competently through a tremendous amount of research and many thousands of miles logged. My first two years of cruising were completely engineless as the first boat was a Hobie Cat and the Bristol's inboard was toast when I bought her. While this may seem irresponsible to some, it was some of the best adventuring I've ever done, and I did it safely. I learned a lot - quickly.

While I appreciate professional certifications I have never been required to purchase / pass these to go cruising. Instead I have put the time and money I have into improving my boats, making them safer, and sailing!

I am fortunate to have a close friend with more than 60 years of intense sailing under his keel, as well as a career designing, building, and operating massive yachts. His advice has been invaluable and I would not be the sailor I am without his input.
