My Dad was a sailor and gave us what opportunity he could to learn to sail. He owned several yachts over his life time. When I was twenty seven I met a man who had a half share in a stretched H28 ketch which had sailed out to Australia from Canada. We bought the other half and had that lovely timber yacht for about seven years before we upgraded to a huon pine Cutter Rigged yacht built in the early fifties in Tasmania to win the Sydney to Hobart. We were going to sail her around the world with our two young kids. But that didn't eventuate. Sadly. I've sailed to Lord Howe on a Taiwanese double ender and I've sailed on a tall ship Barque Europa to Antarctica. I was recently gifted a Hartley TS16 which is sweet and fun - but I am used to boats that are already in the water! I really hanker to sail on a yacht. The dream to cruise will not leave me.
