About Me:

I have an undergraduate degree in Marine Ecology and a PhD from Brown in Cell and Molecular Biology. I work on the amyloid precursor protein, one of the main causative agents of Alzheimer’s disease. I’m a college professor at a small New England college and because of my background, I teach Neurobiology, Marine Ecology, and a course titled, Biological Imaging that aims to teach students how to use light and electron microscopes. I also teach a version of this course at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan through the continuing education program. The students at SVA are adult artists in the greater NYC metropolitan area and I show them how to take still and moving images through light microscopes of plankton, protozoans, marine invertebrates, flowers, and other botanical materials. These students are adults of all ages, genders, lifestyles, etc. and some have become some of my closest friends. We have even done some Bio Art projects while traveling through the Caribbean, some land-based and some from a 42-foot catamaran. I don’t consider myself an artist, but love art and artists (for how they think and process information and for their imagination and passion) and would like to become one myself :) In my earlier years, I was a SCUBA diver for the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. In addition to Brown and the MBL, I have worked at Harvard, The National Institutes of Health, and the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute. I spend most of my time these days between Cape Cod, Providence, and NYC. I am currently interested in underwater filmmaking and just bought a RED Gemini, which is on the Netflix approved camera list. I am also interested in a marine scientific expedition. My hope is to find a few friends to sail, dive, and film with - to awaken our inner Cousteau ! I also wouldn’t mind a beautiful gypsy to roam the earth with but that’s not the main reason to be here :)

Sailing Experience:

I have spent many years racing small 18-foot Knockabouts. These are three-person boats with a main, jib, and spinnaker. I have owned and lived on (in the summer time) two sailboats, a 23-foot Coronado and a 32-foot Paceship Galaxy, and I’ve chartered catamarans in the Caribbean. I currently own a 36-foot Harris Cuttyhunk that I’m living on this summer. My sailing has all been coastal. Would love to find a boat owner that would welcome my underwater film proposal. I would consider buying a larger sailboat myself.
