Whilst writing about Sailing Superstitions last week, it became apparent that sailor’s tattoos were quite an important part of his/her life.
Sailors were a superstitious lot, not surprising given the risky nature of the job. They would spend months at sea at the mercy of high winds, rough seas and cutlass wielding pirates. To try and guarantee a safe passage many superstitions grew up on deck.
Lovesail member Flushing has been kind enough to let us reproduce his cruising diary from last year, that was first published in East Coast Sailing in October 2012. He was fortunate enough to spend the two weeks around the Bank Holiday cruising the East coast in his deep keeled monohull accompanied by two trimarans. One hull good three hulls better.
