A superb extravaganza which features an unprecedented range and number of nautical events, Kiel Week 2014 promises to be one of the best yet. The largest festival in Northern Europe, Kiel Week 2014 lasts nine days and incorporates over two thousand different events.

Commencing on the 22nd June 2014, the 131st Kiel Week includes some exciting new events as well as old favourites which delight festival goers year after year. The event is held at Schleswig-Holstein, the regional capital.
For sailors, this year’s festival features numerous regatta events which are suitable for mariners of all abilities. Competitors will vie to earn the coveted Kiel Classic Cup and the EUROSAF Champions Sailing Cup in addition to various races on the basis of gender, type of craft and distance. If you are a tall ships fan (and who isn’t?) then attendance at the windjammer parade on the second Saturday of the festival is a necessity. It is expected that over a hundred of these impressive vessels will be on the water, presenting a stunning sight. The racing is likely to be thrilling for both competitors and spectators with highlights expected to include watching the Audi Sailing Team in action and the 49er events. Whatever aspect of sailing you’re interested in, Kiel Week 2014 will have something of interest which is certain to appeal.
This amazing occasion isn’t just for sailing devotees. The large music festival held in the town provides a variety of different acts from genres as diverse as opera and dance music. A significant number of activities are available for children, including arts based spectacles of many different sorts. Look out for the street entertainers, fireworks and moving art which transform the streets into a magical environment which is immensely appealing. Everything from cooking to cabaret is beautifully showcased in this stunning pastiche of cultural celebration.
