Tampa Bay Hospice Cup

The year’s Tampa Bay Hospice Cup will be held on April 26th and this is the perfect time for cruisers and racers from the sailing community as well as sailing enthusiasts from all walks of life to get together and enjoy a memorable occasion. The Tampa Bay Hospice Cup started life 28 years ago as the Morgan Invasion and this exciting boat race is open to both non-Morgan and Morgan sailboats. The event has been transformed as a way of extending the long-running Morgan Invasion event, which celebrated its 25th anniversary back in 2010.

The Tampa Bay Hospice Cup is a special marquee regatta that will be held on the west coast of Florida. The race committee is comprised of a number of representatives from the Morgan Invasion as well as the Davis Island Yacht Club, LifePath Hospice and Suncoast Hospice, who work together in order to raise funds for the Hospice organisations in the Tampa Bay area. These special organisations were established to assist people who suffer from chronic and terminal illnesses. The staff at these centres care for people and help them manage feelings of grief that they may be experiencing as they come to the end of their life. Both individual and group counselling is available as well as spiritual support, medical care and caregiver education.

The event has a strong focus on sailing companionship and caters to sailing enthusiasts that want to get together and have fun. The Tampa Bay Hospice Cup will feature a number of fleets including the traditional Morgan Invasion fleets. However, non-Morgan fleets are also invited to join in the fun and there will be a casual fleet during the regatta as well as a number of other races.

People who don’t plan on racing will also have plenty of other ways of joining in the fun. Among the many activities that landlubbers can take part in is a special hospice benefit dinner and silent auction. The event is scheduled to take place at the Davis Island Yacht Club and there will be a fantastic range of prizes to bid on. All proceeds go to Lifepath Hospice and Suncoast Hospice, so attendees are encouraged to really dig deep and give generously to these very worthy causes.
