This wonderful award-winning book takes us on a journey through the areas of the shipping forecast, that national institution that is relied upon by so many seafarers around the United Kingdom.  Collyer paints and writes about the locations so many of us have heard about in the nightly melodic, soporific updates from Radio 4.

Collyer gives us an abundance of bewitching insights. He acquaints us with the men and women who live and earn their living in these areas.  We get to learn about everyday life so much so it feels like we are there. The magnificent paintings from his journey to the shipping areas really do catch the spirit of these untamed, desolate places.
