Dartmouth Regatta 2013
Dartmouth Regatta or The Royal Regatta always includes the last Friday in August. The dates for this year are Thursday 29th to Saturday 31st August 2013.
The “Best in the West” was first and foremost a sailing rowing and swimming regatta. Tennis and Road Racing has been added along with this year, the Royal Navy Guardship HMS Blyth, the RAF Red Arrows, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, The Blades Aerobatic Team, two firework displays, an Illuminated River Procession, a shopping village, a fairground, a bustling street market, helicopter displays, a steamboat rally, the Regatta Ball, the Regatta Shindig and the Regatta Rock.
This year’s Guardship HMS Blyth is a Sandown class Mine Countermeasures Vessels normally based at HM Naval Base Clyde in Scotland. Tours of HMS Blyth which will be situated on the River Dart can be taken. The Royal Navy has been providing a guardship for the regatta for decades and hopes to continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
