Weymouth and Portland International Regatta – Weymouth 2012
The Weymouth and Portland International Regatta is a test event for the 2012 Olympic Games or Weymouth 2012 and starts 31 July to 13 August 2011.
460 lucky sailors from 66 nations will have the chance to test the waters around Weymouth and Portland ahead of the 2012 Olympics. There will be over 170 races over the 12 day event period across the 5 race courses that make up the sailing field of play. The main reason for this event is to test the systems, processes and equipment that will be used for Weymouth next year. It will also serve as an important event for competing athletes to come and sail on the same waters at the same time of year. This will enable them to learn as much as they can about the conditions Weymouth Bay might offer them in 2012.
The International Sailing Federation (ISAF) has decided on the following 10 sailing events for Weymouth.
One person dinghy – Men
One person dinghy heavy – Men
Two person dinghy – Men
Two person dinghy high performance – Men
Windsurfer – Men
