Round the Island Yacht Race
Round the Island Race
This year celebrated 80 years of the Round the Island Race (RTI) hosted by the Island Sailing Club. The island in question is, of course, The Isle of Wight.
I was not lucky enough, or good enough! to take part in this year’s yacht race, but it is on my to-do list for next year. I had to settle for joining in the evening’s entertainment on Saturday night instead!!
Myself and two loyal friends caught the Fast Jet ferry from Southampton over to Cowes on what turned out to be a very lovely evening. The town was heaving with very red-faced, Sebago-clad sailors. The atmosphere was lively and jovial. We had a quick bite to eat then headed for the beer tent and live band area. This was even busier than the town. What can only be described as a huge electronic billboard, listed the round the island race results and the evening’s entertainment. Race-goers could drink their beer while watching the results coming in and listening to the very good live bands. A great evening was had by all, even the non-racers.
