Sailing Central America/ Guatemala
Yesterday morning I woke up to the crack of dawn and headed from Placencia to Punta Gorda Belize (60 miles) to check out of the country. I called the customs agency in Guatemala and said I would be there around six-ish and he said no go you have to get here before that because Guatemala Government is shutting down their borders. I did the math Belize to Livingston is about 21 miles and had to put on the iron jib and both sails up and sailing hard to meet the deadline. I got there at 5:40 pm. Boy was I lucky. They took my passport and boat registration and said see us in the morning and said, "Welcome to Livingston, Guatemala" I’m in. The next day I went to customs and picked up my passport , customs entrance papers and headed to Rio Dulce. 20 miles into a river and in a lake. I am now a freshwater sailor lol . But the thing is that no one can enter or exit the country most or all Central America Borders are closed until further notice.
On another note if you’re ever near this place I highly recommend that you do this river trip. Put this on your list It’s only 20 miles long to the bridge and you can go under it if your mast height is lower than 70’. I’ll post pics in my album
