The Whitstable Oyster Festival 2014  is almost upon us and is the highlight of the summer for many sailing and sea faring enthusiasts. It’s a fun-packed summer celebration that takes place in the coastal town of  Whitstable in Kent every year. This modern revival of an ancient holy festival is a week-long festival which starts on Saturday, 26th of July and finishes on Friday, 1st of August.

Every year the Whitstable Oyster Festival has many different exciting and interesting events to suit all age groups. The Whitstable Oyster Festival 2014 will be no exception. There will be plenty of food, drink, music, parades, competitions, bbq’s and of course Whitstable’s famous oysters. Many of the events will be based around Whitstable’s famous oysters that play a huge part in the heritage and history of this seaside town.

A range of exciting and unusual events will take place around the town, in the harbour, on its beaches and in the local parks. The main events taking place in the Whitstable Oyster Festival 2014 include the harbour food festival, oyster festival, street parade, oyster eating competition, seaside cinema screenings, a children’s treasure hunt, Venetian carnival, the building of grotters and over 70 other exciting events.

Each year there are plenty of events to keep children occupied and entertained. The main kid’s events during the festival include comedians, music, movies, storytelling, children’s craft workshops, a children’s tea party and pearl dives for different age groups.

Adults are also well catered for with a range of events taking place including a charity tea garden, beer festival, textile exhibitions, oyster lace makers, museum presentations, farmers market, dog show, craft fair, mud tug and comedy shows featuring Sean Lock, Dave Johns and Johnny Candon. The fireworks finale on the final day of this festival caps off an exciting week of celebrating Whitstable’s heritage, food, drink, music and art.

Each summer Whitstable comes alive and the Whitstable Oyster Festival 2014 promises not to disappoint. There will be event’s to suit every age group and every taste, making it the place to be this summer.
