Asian Yachting Grand Prix Championship
Asian Yachting Grand Prix Championship
Overview
The Asian Yachting Grand Prix is one of the premier sailing races in the world. It is a combination race that aggregates scores from regattas taking place in Asian waters over a season.
Points
There are 12 points-scoring regattas that boats can compete in which contribute to the Asian Yachting Grand Prix competition. Crews can compete in as many of these events as they wish, but it is only their best six results that will be tallied to determine the final placing. Boats are awarded points for entering an event, and if they place within the top five at that regatta. You get extra points for winning a race, while points are deducted if you are disqualified.

The 12 regattas that make up the Asian Yachting Grand Prix consist of 5 each in two circuits – one of the eastern and one of the western regions of Asian Waters – and two concluding regattas that are more centrally located. The regattas are listed below, with the dates for the 2014-15 event.

Last year’s winner
The conclusion of the 2013-14 Grand Prix could not have been any more dramatic. Going into the final event of the season, the Samui Regatta, the title was still up for grabs. It was eventually won by Foxy Lady 6, skippered by Bill Bremner, who won their seventh race in a row to pip Anthony Root’s Red Kite II, which had been the frontrunner for most of the season. The Foxy Lady crew were presented with the Yacht of the Year award at the conclusion of the regatta, with Bremner taking the Skipper of the Year prize, complete with the traditional blue blazer.
